Meteorology Charles A. Giannetta
                                      Meteorologist - Professor

"Global Warmimg" Global Warming has become a very interesting and controversial subject. Some people that are on the right, some on the left and others still not sure. The question is: Is Global Warming taking place or is it a natural order of things here on Earth? We ask the question: What made the Great Lakes? Answer... The Glaciers. The next question is: What happened to the Glaciers? Answer....The Glaciers melted and receded north. So than the next question is: Are the Glaicers still melting? The Earth being some 6 billions years old, it just may be that the ice on the Earth is still melting? There have been times in the past that the Earth has gone through some warm periods and some colder periods. Only time will tell what will take place some 50 to 100 years from now, however, if Global Warming is being hastened by man, than man should take all the necessary precautions to help slow this process of Global Warming or prevent it from happening. It will be a costly process for man to completely prevent Global Warming from happening. Also, it will still be very costly to even slow the process down. There are ways that man can help slow down the process. Burning less fossil fuel. Driving our cars less. Stop cutting down our rain forests, but who wants to be the first to do this. Some of the gases in the atmosphere which contibute to Global Warming.
Carbon Dioxide...Water Vapor...Nitrous Oxides...Mathane...Ozone.

...Other Areas To Help Slow Slow Global Warming...

1. Recycle Paper....Cans...Plastic/Glass Bottles. 2. Burn less fossil fuels. 3. Drive your automobile less. 4. Car pool, walk or bicycle. 5. Check air pressure in you tires. 6. Driver slower. 7. Keep your car well tuned. 8. Use public transportation. 9. When driving, do not have quick starts and slow easy. 10. Buy an energy efficient automobile. 11. Use renewable fuels. Wind...Solar...Biofuels. 12. Shut your computers and printers off when not is use. 13. Use high energy efficient electronic equipment. 14. Stop deforestation. 15. Plant more trees....flowers....bushes. 16. Use less paper and plastic bags. 17. Turn lights off when not in use. 18. Don't turn you home thermostat up too high. 19. Keep your home furnace in top condition. Have it cleaned and inspected once a year. "Global Warming Continued" ..."Areas Where We can Slow Down Global Warming...

1. Microwave ovens. 2. Watching TV. 3. Clothes washer and dryer. 4. Air conditioner. 5. Using a hair dryer. 6. Diswasher. 7. Using fans. 8. No back yard burning. 9. Use energy saving light bulbs.

...Dangerous Chemicals...

1. Ozone: About 12 ozone molecules for 1 million air molecules. 2. Ozone: Antarctic Ozone Hole expands in winter shrinks in summer. 3. Ozone: Been measured by the British sine 1856. 4. Ozone: Concentration in the stratosphere remains constant. 5. Ozone: Contain 3 Oxygen Atoms. (03) 6. Ozone: In the stratosphere helps block out "Ultra Violet" (UV) rays. 7. Ozone: In the troposphere produced by lightning discharges. 8. Ozone: Forms in the stratosphere by combining Moecular Oxygen (02) with Atomic Oxygen (O). 9. Ozone: Most Ozone over Antarctic come from South America. 10. Ozone: Near the Earth's surface causes pollution. The Green House Effect. Harnful to human, animals, plants and marine life. With the help of the Sun produces Photochemical Smog. 11. Ozone: Ozone does not penetrate deep into the sea. 12. Ozone: OZONE HOLE forms in the Artic but is much smaller. 13. Ozone: OZONE HOLE phenomemon first observed in the 1980s. 14. Ozone: Smells like eggs. Bluish in color. 15. Ozone: Some causes of OZONE depelection: Solar Cycle. Suns Output. Sun is necessary for OZONE to form. 16. Ozone: Some destroyers of OZONE. Chloroflurocarbons (CFCs). Chlorine/Flurine/Carbon which are in arerosols and coolents. Automobile primary fo (CFCs). 17. Ozone: There are about 12 parts per million from about 3 to 35 miles. As loe as 1 ppm surface to 3 miles up. 18. Ozone: There are fluctions from volcanic eruptions. 19. Ozone: The OZONE HOLE forms over Antarctic due to the rare winter conditions. 20. Ozone: Used over 100 years to pruify water. Acts 3,000 times faster than chlorine. 99 percent of bacteria in drinking water cane be killed by OZONE. 21. Ozone: (UV) rays at max 10am to 2pm. Causes skin cancer, sun burn and cataracts. 22. Ozone: 90 percent located between 6 to 30 miles above the Earth.

...Dangerous Chemicals...

1. NITROGEN OXIDE: (NO2) Produced by automobiles. Burning all types of fuel. 2. SULFUR OXIDE: (SO2) Produced when materials containing sulfur are heated and burned, such as bituminous coal. 3. CARBON DIOXIDE: (CO2). 4. LEAD. 5. (CFC'S) Chloroflurocarbons: Chlorine/Flurine/Carbon. 6. CARBON MONOXIDE: (CO) Colorless. oderless, poisonous gas produced by incomplete burning of carbon. the main constitute of coal and hydrocarbons. 7. METHANE: (CH4) Produce in swamps and decaying vegetation. Human and animal wastes. 8. SUFUR DIOXIDE: (SO2) Produced when Sulfur Oxide mixes with water. 9. ACID RAIN: Sulfur and Nitric Acid mix with water. 10. VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS: (VOCs) called HYDROCARBONS, (HC). One of the (HC) that forms naturally in the atmosphere is MATHANE. (CH4)
