FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOW BEGINS FALLING IN L.V. BRIEFLY
The Morning Call
The winter's first snow fall in the Lehigh Valley began last night as weather forecasters predicted 1 to 3 inches of snow by this morning.
Snow has been unusually slow in accumulating this winter in the Lehigh Valley as the only measurable snow was recorded Dec. 23 when one-tenth of an inch fell, said Charles Giannetta of the National Weather Service at Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport.
There was no snow in November, he said. The first trace of snow this year was recorded yesterday.
''What we had in November and December has no bearing on what we will have the rest of the winter,'' Giannetta said. ''January and February could be horrible,'' he said.
Giannetta said the snow would taper off by morning and the area would probably get more snow by Friday.
